Review: Our Relaxing Lunch at Ale & Compass Restaurant
Lunch at Ale & Compass Restaurant isn’t one of the most popular meals at Walt Disney World Resort, but it’s a delicious spot to enjoy a relaxing meal in the middle of the day if you’re in the area. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, but it is also very convenient for guests of Disney’s Beach Club Resort or Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.
Please note that as of the time of writing, lunch is not currently available at the restaurant. However, guests may visit the restaurant for breakfast, dinner or even Mother’s Day Brunch. The lunch menu is similar to the dinner menu, so this review will be useful for anyone planning to visit the restaurant for dinner, as well.
Date of Our Visit for Lunch at Ale & Compass Restaurant
Our family visited Disney’s Yacht Club Resort for lunch at Ale & Compass in early January of 2020, prior to the start of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, we were guests of Disney’s Riviera Resort, and getting over to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort was a breeze with the use of Disney Skyliner. Prior to your visit to Ale & Compass Restaurant, I recommend you check out the “Know Before You Go” site that details current dining policies at Walt Disney World.
Hours of Service and Reservations
As of the time of writing, Ale & Compass Restaurant is not open for lunch. However, this may change, and you can check the hours of operation using the My Disney Experience app. The restaurant is currently open for breakfast from 7:00 am to 11:30 am and for dinner from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Although a walk-up list is available through the My Disney Experience app, reservations are highly recommended. Reservations may be made up to 60 days in advance.
How to Get to Ale & Compass Restaurant
Guests of a Walt Disney World Resort hotel may use Disney transportation to get to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. There is a Disney Skyliner station nearby at the International Gateway for EPCOT, so guests who are travelling from other Skyliner accessible resorts can use this means of transportation to get to the area.
Guests of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn or Disney’s Beach Club Resort can simply walk to the restaurant. Guests of the following resorts may choose to take Disney Skyliner over to EPCOT’s International Gateway, then walk the rest of the way to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort:
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
Depending on the time of your reservation, it may be easiest to travel to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort from other locations on property by a ride share service such as Uber or Lyft. Otherwise, you may need to travel to one of the Walt Disney World theme parks before transferring to a route that leads to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Off-site and on-site guests traveling by car will need to provide proof of a reservation in order to enter the hotel property and park on site.

What did we at for lunch at Ale & Compass Restaurant?
For an appetizer, we chose the Roasted “Buffalo-style Cauliflower”, which I was very excited to try. Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive prior to our main course, so the server took it off the bill for us. I’ll try again next time! For the main lunch course, my son and I both chose Fish & Chips: with House-made Vinegar Chips and Lemon-caper Tartar Sauce. Fish & Chips is not currently on the dinner menu. I had an Angry Orchard hard cider to drink.
My husband chose the Bacon and Vermont Cheddar Burger: with Caramelized Onion on a Parker House Bun with Applewood-smoked Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Herb Mayo. He paired it with a draught beer.
Our server brought us some Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches for dessert, which she offered due to the mix-up with our appetizer. We took them with us on a little walk around the boardwalk afterward.
Are there character appearances at Ale & Compass Restaurant?
There are no character appearances at Ale & Compass Restaurant. However, if guests wander the grounds of Disney’s Beach Club Resort, they might luck into an impromptu appearance by Daisy, Minnie or Goofy by the pool at Stormalong Bay.
Considerations for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities
This is a fairly calm and quiet location for a meal at Walt Disney World, without any especially loud music or intense lighting. Guests should consider any sensitivities they may need to have accommodated at a standard restaurant in any other location when deciding if Ale & Compass is a good fit for their family to dine at.
