Nestled in the heart of Disney’s Hollywood Studios lies a dining experience that transports guests to a drive-in movie theater experience: Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. This unique restaurant ingeniously combines a retro 50’s drive-in theater ambiance with a modern culinary touch. No wonder this restaurant is so popular among the families I plan with. When I visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios this past December, I knew I had to give this restaurant a try.

What’s it Like inside Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater?

As we entered, an array of vintage cars converted into cozy dining booths greeted us. Each car faced a large movie screen showcasing classic sci-fi clips.

Some of the cars seat just two or four guests, while others can accommodate a larger dining party. The dimly lit, starry atmosphere, coupled with the nostalgic black-and-white movie scenes, created an immersive experience that was really entertaining.

The car booth we sat in had two rows. The party in the row ahead of us were a separate couple. Guests enter from one side of the car booth only. This means that if the inside guest needs to get up from the table, both guests will need to stand.

Speaking of bathrooms, the restaurant shares its restroom with the ABC Commissary quick service restaurant. A trip to the bathroom takes you out of the immersive experience for a moment or two.

How was the service?

Our service was attentive, but not intrusive. Because the room is quite dark, developing a personal connection with our server was tricky. She was friendly and helpful, brought our food quickly, and provided us with a flashlight for signing the check.

Menu and Food

The menu offers guests a fusion of classic American fare with contemporary flair, promising to please families and food enthusiasts alike. From massive burgers to inventive appetizers like Fried Dill Pickles and specialty milkshakes, Disney designs every dish to complement the overall theme.

I ordered the Fried Dill Pickles for my starter. For my main course, I chose the Grilled Chicken Citrus Salad, paired with a glass of Red Sangria. Everything tasted fresh, and I especially liked the coin-shaped serving style of the pickles.

Overall, I really enjoyed eating at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. I found the space to be calm and restful after a more hectic time in the theme park. The movie clips shown on the big screen were really entertaining and fun to watch. I found the atmosphere and theming to be really unique. I can’t think of another restaurant like it, at Walt Disney World Resort or elsewhere.

Recommendations and Tips for Enjoying Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

Reservations Required

As always, I recommend making advance dining reservations for any table service restaurant at Walt Disney World Resort. Due to this restaurant’s popularity, you absoluvely won’t want to skip making a reservation. My clients know that booking dining reservations is part of the service that I offer.

When Should You Arrive for Your Reservation at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater?

Aim to arrive at the restaurant 15 to 20 mintues ahead of your reservation time. This will give you a little buffer in case of unexpected delays in the park. You’ll also have ample time to check in for your reservation. Remember, Disney’s policy is to hold your reservation for 15 minutes past your scheduled time. If you miss your reservation, you may be subject to a no-show penalty.

Car or Picnic Table?

The restaurant features these two main types of seating. The car booths, which are the highlight, offer a more immersive experience. If you prefer this seating, you can request it upon arrival. Remember, Disney can’t guarantee requests as they are subject to availability. Picnic tables are a good alternative, especially for larger parties.

Dietary Accommodations

If you have special dietary needs, be sure to check out the menu options ahead of time. A variety of options are available, including vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. Your server will probably ask if anyone in your dining party has any special dietary needs. Don’t hesitate to ask for accommodations as needed.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food. While there, immerse yourself in the vintage sc-fi clips and nostalgic drive-in setting. This restaurant presents a rare opportunity to dine under a starry night scky while watching classic 1950s sci-fi snippets.
